BGSTR designed a promo package for the newest season of ‘Hoarders’, the Emmy-nominated and Critics Choice Television Award-winning series from A&E, graphically tackling some of the most extreme and challenging hoards to set the tone for the season.

Promo Package

Our relationship with A&E has produced some great work, and we were excited to take on a new franchise with them for our first time working on their original series, Hoarders. We designed the promo package, including the promo open, title cards, end pages, buttons, sponsor affiliates and more, to graphically anchor each episode of the season. Toward the end of our time with A&E, we added a :15-second ID to the project because we were having so much fun collaborating on this design with our clients.

Each episode focuses on someone struggling with hoarding tendencies as they work with experts, friends and family in a race against the clock to help them clean up their homes and reclaim balance in their lives. We wanted to capture how dire the situation is for people suffering from this condition in our design.

Design Exploration

Our design concept shows the hoarding mentality as a progressive disease and we created a 3D environment that drops you right in the situation. The 3D hoards are designed to feel very claustrophobic and dirty at the start of the graphic journey, and progress toward a solution with each scene getting a little more open until you get to the end page and start seeing some rays of light coming through the window.

The goal in our design was to be as photoreal as possible. To achieve this, we designed the promo as a 15-second full-camera move, searching through the hoarder house and incorporating elements you would find in a hoard. Our team scoured old episodes of the series to ensure the accuracy of the items we selected, and then created models of the elements to build a library for the 3D artists to use in their design.

01/03

We provided cut downs and a toolkit for our client so they are able to use the package for the foreseeable future. The healthy pace of this project really enabled us to take it to the next level, with our partners empowering us to put our energy toward creating, resulting in some really premium renders and that photoreal effect we were striving for.

We were thrilled to have such a productive partnership with their team and the opportunity to breathe some new life into the design of the iconic series.
